Iced

Day 54; Project 365

This is an interesting photo and not what I was trying to capture. I wanted to try my hand at a reflection shot again. That project didn't leave me with great results. But while I was taking those photos I just leaned over my glass of water and snapped a few shots. The glare from the flash bounced off the water and ice and gave me this really over exposed photo that I think is actually kind of cool.

Boring!

Day 53; Project 365

I call this photo Boring because, well, that's kind of what it is. But it was the best shot of the day. I spent day 53 kicked back on the sofa, knitting and reading. So there you have it. That's about it. Plus this is the only shot taken that day that came out anywhere near half way decent.

The books you see there are Stitch 'n Bitch; A Beginner's Handbook and What to Expect When You're Expecting.

In The Crib

Day 52; Project 365

Been spending a lot of time getting the baby room ready. So on day 52 I snapped a few shots of the crib. I thought this one was kind of cool. It's taken from the outside looking through the front slats to the back. The only thing, I didn't like the way the flash was turning the shades of the wall behind the crib. And I couldn't get any good photos without the flash.

So I turned the image to B&W. It turned out kind of cool. The crib is actually white and the wall is a sage green.

Marks The Spot

Day 51; Project 365

Every day I park in pretty much the same spot at work. Always under the Assembly C sign and always beside these trees. I use them as guides. I know when the tree is level with a certain part of my car that I'm fully in the parking space.

Lately I've been paying closer attention to the trees and the way the lights (the parking lights, car lights, sunlight) play against them. So on Day 51 I pulled out my trusty Olympus camera and snapped a few photos. This one was actually taken from inside my car at the trees and the line of trees beyond. You can see the first heat of the sunrise just behind them. And if you look really close you can see a parking light in the background of the shot.

I liked this shot because I liked the way the light shifts through the photograph almost creating barriers at each point of distance.

Did Someone Say Food?

Day 50; Project 365

Day 50 was a very busy day. It started and ran like a fiend all day long, ending with our baby class that night. When we got home we were starved and luckily my dh had been to the store that day and bought us some grub for din-din. A roast beef sandwich with a melted slice of provolone cheese. Mmm-Mm, that's good! And as it turns out this is the only photo I took that day so naturally it was the best choice for day 50's photo.

Droplets

Day 49; Project 365

On Day 49 it rained. And rained. And rained. It just poured on me on my way in to work, and when I got to work, despite having both a rain jacket and umbrella, by the time I made it from my car inside the building I was soaked. Luckily, I had my Olympus camera with me, it usually stays with me always these days, and I snapped a few pictures.

This is a photo of my laptop bag. It was just as soaked. As I snapped a photo of it however I started to wonder if I could get a close up of the beads of water. I don't think I did too bad capturing those.

Squish

Day48; Project 365

On Day 48, I took the day off work and the dh and myself went to one of the largest consignment sales in these parts. I was floored by the # of people and the shear volume of items for sale. We were looking for very specific items so were kind of single-mindedly focused. But when we saw the rocking bear chair we had to grab it.

This is a shot of the bear all squished down and in our big container. When I saw him down in there I just had to take a picture. He was too cute to resist.

Grrrrrr!

Day 47; Project 365

Grrrrr! A-Grrrrrrrr!

Can't you just hear her saying it?

I swear this day is not just another gratuitous pet photo. But in reality a hilarious photo full of cheap entertainment. Which is what our cats provide. This is our female cat. She's a long hair, black and white feisty kitty. And so laid back that she tolerates our fun and games.

However, this day started out with me trying to get a photo of our other cat's mohawk. Yes, we have a cat with a mohawk. At least right now and for as long as it takes his fur to grow back in, which it is doing nicely. Sadly, I couldn't get a good shot of it. My dh tried to help, hence the fun and games commenced. And since I couldn't really have one cat photo as my photo of the day, here's a shot of the mohawk kitty. Just not of his mohawk.

"Um, yeah.... Someone save me!"

To The Edge

Day 46; Project 365

On Day 46 I was taking some photos of the knitted burp cloth I'd recently finished knitting to upload to my Raverly account, and this one really caught my eye. It's the edge of the burp cloth folded up. I'm not real sure what possessed me to fold the cloth and take the photo, but as soon as I did I was glad. I really like this angle. I like the way it draws your gaze to the center fold. Not to mention you can see the way the fabric weaves together.

Settling Back In

Day 45; Project 365

Day 45's shot is kind of boring. But I guess we all have boring days and boring photos from time to time huh? We actually started getting the house back in order after having it dismantled for so long while we did some remodeling. In this photo the entertainment center is back in place and even has some of the decor back in order. The boxes were full of movies that needed to be placed back in their home.

But the good news is that the house is starting to come back together, even if we do still have a long way to go until everything is back where it belongs.

Sweet Pea

Day 44; Project 365

Day 44 was a good day, but again a very busy day. I was only able to take a few shots. The best one was of the cake at my baby shower from work. The theme of the party of Sweet Pea since that's what everyone calls my little one to be. And yes, there is as much icing on that cake as it looks like there is and it was very delish.

When You Gotta Go

Day 43; Project 365

Well, I've fallen behind in getting the photos uploaded onto the computer again. So I have a few days catch up. So here goes catch up post #1.

Day 43 was a very busy day, and I only got one photo in. This one seemed to be the best choice for the day since I spend a good amount of time in the ladies room most days. One of the side effects of pregnancy.

Our Labor and Delivery classes started on Day 43 so this photo was taken in the L&D wing of the hospital I'll be delivering at in about 8 weeks.

Fare Thee Well

Day 42; Project 365

This wasn't the shot I thought about posting for today, but my hubby said this shot was the better shot. So I went with it. Since I really have to try to watch what I'm eating these last weeks of pregnancy I'll be saying farewell to the cookies for a little while. Well, at least cutting way back on the amount I consume.

Which Way Do I Go?

Day 41; Project 365

Every day on my way to work I'm always fascinated by the way the walk / don't walk sign is positioned between the red and green light.

Play Me, Baby

Day 40; Project 365

The shot I was going for this didn't really make the cut. But this one did. These are my husband's guitars and banjo that hang on his office wall.

Something Different

Day 39; Project 365

Day 39's photo is something a little different. I was sitting in my office thinking about how it looked like a lot like new digs but more like college digs with my bean bag chair and florescent light when I glanced up and spied the pattern the lamp was casting on the wall. It looked cool and different at the same time.

I like the fact that the light is a little tilted in the photo. Gives it a little more appeal.

Post processing includes cropping out part of the ceiling from the shot, boosting the color and then making it Black and White.

Spotlight

Day 38; Project 365

I walked around this day took a few photos here and there and then stumbled up on this sight. The sun was streaming through the window perfectly to spotlight the tiny baby socks I'd bought at the store earlier in the day. So I grabbed the camera and took the photo.

I don't know about you, but I think sometimes the unexpected is pretty darn cool.

Good Thing

Day 37; Project 365

It's a good thing I took this photo, or I wouldn't have a day 37 shot. I happened to whip out my camera and take a shot of my pens sitting on my desk at work. And as soon as I snapped the photo the battery died in my camera. No problem I thought. I have my back up. So I pulled it out and exchanged batteries, and as soon as I did, it died too.

My first thought was Crap! My second thought was Dang, I hope that shot comes out because all of our other cameras are boxed up awaiting the installation of our new carpet.

So it's a good thing this shot did turn out. Well, at least it's in focus. Oh and it also shows I have a slight obsession for pens. :)

The Work Thing

Day 36; Project 365

Today's photo takes you into my work space - my actual day job, 9-5, work space. I was sitting at my desk one morning doing my usual morning work routine when I glanced down and spied my lipstick ring on the white coffee mug- (no coffee inside, just decaf tea). I was intrigued and snapped a photo or two. This one became my shot of the day.

Some post processing - slight color boost and some shadow adjustment.

Cat Head

Day 35; Project 365

My dh and I have this thing. We collect wooden cats but not just any wooden cats. They have to be bizarre. Slightly bent if you know what I mean. Because we're slightly bent. The stranger the cat, the better we like it.

This one is one of my favorite cat heads. I think it might actually be the cat that kicked off our crazy obsession with crazy cat heads.

I did do a little post procession on this, giving it a slight color boost and adjusted the sharpness and exposure due to the flash glare.

King and Queen

(Click image to see larger version)

Project 365 - Day34

I've been trying for a while to get this photo uploaded and posted with no success. I finally decided to do things a little differently. So you might notice that the images are being displayed differently. But you can always still click to go right to Flickr to see my photos and the original shot.

Now about the photo.

I call this photo King and Queen... Of the spices that is. I mean salt and pepper are staples in everyone's spice rack. Don't you think that earns them those titles? Anyway, as I was looking around for photo opportunities for day 34 I glanced over and spied the spice rack. That's when this idea hit me.

I had this image in my head about exactly how I wanted this photo to look and feel. After many trails and errors, I'm sorry to say I didn't quite make it. I'm not as pleased with the final shot as I'd wanted to be for several different reasons. I don't think I'll go into them with this post, but I will say don't be surprised if I don't revisit this idea again at some point down the road.

However, the shot is not a total loss. I did learn something new about lighting while trying to grasp the shot. Therefore, this became the pick of the day.

The first thought when I saw this shot... Oh, pretty colors.

This was not going to be the shot I posted for this day. I actually took this one as an after thought to upload to my Raverly WIP page after I started this new, instant gratification project. After working on my baby blanket for awhile, I felt the need for a side project that would knit up quicker. Hence the photo and the project.

This project is a burp cloth, knitted up on size 7 US needles using 100% cotton. I love the colors and the fact that those stitches look so evenly spaced. :)

As I might have mentioned, I find myself home a lot these days. Work and home and the occasional trip to the grocery store is about all I seem to do. Well, at least that's what it feels like. So I find myself searching for items to take photos of that are interesting and creative. To be honest, this project has stretched my creativity I think. In a good way.

Take today's photo for example. Who'd have thought that my blinds would become so fascinating? Well, they did to me as I sat and stared at the play of shadows against light. I was so intrigued I started snapping photographs and fell for this one.

I think I like it so much because at first glance you can't really tell what you're looking at. And even though you can see a peek of the outside world slipping through, there's no hint as to what it truly is.

I did do some post processing on this shot - Black and White filter (which isn't a very far stretch from the original color version), Noise reduction and tweaked the sharpness.

Day 31 found me hanging around the house again. I find myself doing that a lot more these days as I move well into my 3rd trimester.

Anyway, I thought this shot summed up nicely the fact that I've turned into a home body in more ways than one, what with all the home repairs, preparations for baby's arrival and my travel limitations.

Some post processing done on this one includes, some blurring around the edges, some noise reduction and just the slightest color contrast adjustment.

I was taking "in progress" photos of the home repairs me and my husband are doing around the house (He's been doing most of the work.) when I took this shot. I didn't notice until I'd uploaded the photo that while taking the shot my baby bump wanted in on the action. I didn't even notice it at the time.

Is this the best photo in the world? No.

Is this photo hilarious? Absolutely.

Which is why it had to be my Day 30 photo.

On day 29 I still wasn't feeling well. So I went to bed early, again. Only once in bed I realized I hadn't taken my 365 photo for that day. My husband said, "Just do two tomorrow." I told him that was cheating and I had to take a photo. So he coaxed my furry companion into posing for a shot.

In reality getting this photo was hilarious because my furry companion kept snubbing me as I tried to take her photo. That is until the coaxing began. So when in a jam like I was reaching for the obvious photo sometimes is the best option.

I know the quality of this shot is not great. But I decided not to do anything with it since the blah colors really do represent the way I felt.
